A Letter From The Pastor

Welcome and thank you for taking the time to visit the website for Saint Nicholas Catholic School in Nicktown, Pennsylvania. Our parish, Saint Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, was founded in 1861 by Benedictine monks from Saint Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe, Pennsylvania and has been staffed by Benedictine monks ever since. One of the distinguishing characteristics of Benedictine monasticism is the emphasis upon education and the establishment of Saint Nicholas Catholic School in 1923 was in service of that charism. The school reflects the hall marks of Benedictine education: Love of Christ and of neighbor, prayer, stability, conversion of life, obedience, discipline, humility, stewardship, hospitality, and community. Those hall marks distinguish an education grounded in the teachings of the Church in accord with God’s Word in service of faith, family, and country. Sadly, those values have been displaced in our nation and public schools by a very secular, anti-faith agenda. Therefore, we at Saint Nicholas Catholic School hope to provide an affordable, academically rigorous alternative to all students, parents and families.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Jeremiah G. Lange, O.S.B., Ph.D.

MISSION

FAITH-BASED EDUCATION

Pope Francis said that “every Christian is challenged to be actively engaged in evangelization”. This evangelization can only take place when we examine our own relationship with Jesus. Catholic Schools are essential to carry out the church’s mission of evangelization. At St. Nicholas Catholic School we offer students a faith-based education. Gospel Values are taught throughout the curriculum. Students have a chance to be excited about their faith, to befriend others and to offer others the friendship of Jesus.
